How can we remain faithful in today’s turbulent times?

As we as students transition into the world of higher education, we are presented with many challenges. Issues of freedom, choice, rights, and responsibilities are paramount during this stage. These issues are all the more pressing today as populism is on the rise and differences in conviction are exploited for political gain. We are honoured to announce that Dr. Altaf Husain will visit us to give an interactive lecture and provide us with insights on how to remain faithful amidst these challenges. Some of the questions we hope to explore this evening are:

  • Why do students struggle to remain faithful?
  • Which practical measures can we adopt to face challenges to our faith?

About the speaker:

Dr. Altaf is Associate Professor in Social Work at Howard University, Washington DC and exceptionally engaged with the Muslim student Population in the United States. His research focus – Faith-Inspired Civic Engagement – is strongly related to the topic of our lecture.

He annually visits the Netherlands to teach a course in Orientalism at Utrecht University College and is a double alumnus from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland and earned his B.S. in Biomedical Engineering and his M.S. in Social Work. He received his Ph.D. in Social Work from Howard University in Washington. Furthermore, dr. Husain had served as a two-term national president of the Muslim Students Association (MSA National) and serves as the Vice President of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA). Also, he was recently appointed the Vice President of the Yaqeen Institute for Islamic Research.
